Mike’s Story

Mike joined Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue in 2009 after serving as a firefighter in Fullerton, CA for 10 years. He and his wife, Ivy, used savings from years of living aboard a small sailboat to purchase land near Hood River, where they dreamed of raising a family and starting a farm.

At TVF&R, Mike served as an Apparatus Operator and Paramedic on the Technical Rescue team. In 2020, he was diagnosed with a Grade 2 Glioma brain tumor. After two major brain surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation, he is no longer able to return to work.

Since his diagnosis, the Roulette family has turned their mountain-view property into Hope Ranch Lavender Farm. Their goal is to make it a sustainable and inclusive wedding venue. To meet county requirements, they need to build a structure—and that’s where support through the Hood River Barnraiser comes in.
